Need a bit more detail than that...

Install BZ2 From the CD, with NO patches or mods installed.
Download the zip, extract the patch to the directory it downloaded to (usually 'downloads' folder)
Run the installer, and make sure it runs on the correct install.
Install EVERYTHING is comes with, wether you think you have it already or not.

Job done.

Run the installer, and make sure it runs on the correct install.

This is most likely the problem, when you run the patch make sure the "destination" is pointing to your new install. If not, change it using the browse option.

ok ive found the problem, it was the tiny 'install this patch in this location' bit...damn it too many instals lol.

Question: it said something about my internet ports, can i now host a bz2 game with this patch?

Depends on your firewall, router, etc. Read the 'nettips' file (sometimes also shown as 'nettips.rtf') for more info. You may have to train your router to forward ports 17770-17772, TCP & UDP to your computer's internal IP address. But, go read the nettips file.

Try hosting a game. If you get "Recieved Enough #1 and #2 packets", then your game is usually visible to others. If you dont get that message, then you will have to forward ports.

And if you don't get those messages TJ mentions, then a different message will appear explaining to the user that router configs are needed, and what file to look for (nettips) for more help. Those messages are there for a reason. If more people would read what's right in front of their faces and follow directions, more games would be hosted.
