Really what you should do on Dropzone is hit the statues as soon as your in-game, commander included. Provided everyone has heavy sabre II's that is. Its piss easy to take them down if one person circles, then you don't have to worry about it later.

I did this with Derp/Scout in a test game not so long ago, all three players went straight for the statues, they were down in minutes, then all we had to worry about was the enemy.

Now I will definitely make a new one for GH...

You're good with the DLL and stuff, make the terrain rumble midway through the game and have one of those megas' erupt from the ground in the center of player's base.

10 Simple Rules For 1.3 "Green" Players In Team Strategy Games

1. Always keep moving, always be in a ship.
2. Go home for pods, or heal on service bay, when your ship is damaged or when you need ammo
3. By default, you should be hitting pools and scavengers, with your teammates.
4. Avoid getting into a fight with the enemy, they are better than you. Be observant of enemies approaching you by watching the radar. If your wingmen or commander are in a fight, HELP THEM.
5. Stay on rec deck where the ship is being built, because that's where a new ship is being built for you. It also minimizes the risk that a enemy pilot will steal it.
6. If commander gives you a scavenger, he expects you to deploy it on the nearest pool. However, if there is a lot of loose scrap nearby, PICK THAT UP FIRST!
7. Don't ask for a ship, the commander knows you're out of a ship.
8. Ask for service pods when you need, this is where saying "1" or "2" in chat comes in handy, indicating how many pods you need.
9. Pick up the weapons upgrade the commander dropped for you. If commander says "Chain up, get home!", you go home and get chain gun.
10. Stay alert and observe the chat window. Listen to your commander. Reply when needed.

Apart from the 'in the players base part', that could be done with ODF

*tweaks stuff*

It took me 3 damn days to sign up and here i am finally!

bow down, noobs!

However - what i wanted to say is that i agree with most things written in DF's guide, also would I like to add that
Quote
1.2 vets playing 1.3 are wolves in the sheep pen.
is not quite right. Its more like 1.2 player are gods amongst insects in 1.3. If there is a need to explain the most basic stuff to the average 1.3 player then this statement can be carved in stone. As for the arrogance - I welcome any 1.3 player who wants to enjoy a 1vX with me to 1.2, just so i could show you that the "arrogance" everyone is nagging about nowadays has a long tradition in bz2 and moreover is based on reason. (the reason to pwn ppl... I waited 2 years to pull this one off)

Now to the one thing that I find is not correct: the blast chain tank.

In my opinion the blast chain tank is not the proper choice for a mid game strat, since blast las does more dmg than blast chain. From my experience the dps output of blast las is higher than that of a blast chain tank, also in 1.2 the scouts are even in mid games a nuisance for tanks, where blast chain basically leaves you with less hp since you took longer to kill that scout. These are just a few reasons why blast las should be picked by default and blast chain only in certain cases.

However, that was the one main thing I didnt agree with. I dont think i can argue about the rest with you since 1.3 seems to be a different game where rocket tanks do serve a purpose!

Also: Kick ass guide - nice that some1 took his time to make this. I recorded a lot of games with me tutoring my guys, but they've been lost in a server crash... Maybe i can dig up some of the more basic ones and ul em somewhere so ppl can view them? Is that even interesting to ppl since 1.2 seems to be the new-guy free zone...

HF! Please dont ask who I am, it annoys me - those who need to know, do know.

Hiya! Nice to see you here!

I think this issue is probably just a matter of personal preference.

It's pretty easy to acheive the ideal top damage/second with blast/laser, since both weapons are slow-firing, and thus easy to hit with.
Chainguns are a lot harder to hit 100% with than lasers are, and even with expert weapon-switch timing it's impossible not to miss a few bullets of chain while you switch to blast and back.

With the above laser advantages in mind, the theoretical maximums with perfect weapons switching and aim, are:

___________vs scout__vs tank__
blast/laser____ 650_____450____
blast/chain____720_____620____

Now due to the fact that the laser is easier to aim, easier to weaponswitch, and more frontloaded, blast/laser almost always comes out ahead of blast/chain against scouts, despite doing less damage/second. Just about everyone can agree on that.

Against tanks, though, the target is slower and larger, and I find it quite easy to aim a chaingun at them. Also, frontloading counts for less, since tanks have more health. Due to this, in my experience, the last remaining advantage of blast/laser - the ease of weapon-switching, doesn't make up for the *huge* damage advantage that blast/chain holds.

I can see where you're coming from !g, and it's more pronounced if you're fighting more enemy scouts than enemy tanks. I think this issue is probably just a matter of personal experience - some players fight tank v tank better when using blast/chain, some find it easier to use blast/laser. Since I'm not sure which of the two the reader would prefer, I just suggest blast/chain because it has stronger numerical backup, it's my personal preference, and it obviously hits scavs/pools a lot better.

Haha, yes, if it were a ZST guide I'd be advising more tech or guntowers at that stage of the game. 1.3 rocket tanks do indeed make things a little different in the midgame. Still, you should come play some 1.3 with us. Scout, Appel, Fired, and I have been having some decent games together, and this dd guy is going to be an absolute master in a few months if he keeps playing as often as he is doing.

Thanks! Unfortunately, most of the good 'thanks' feedback for this guide has come from the highly experienced players, and I haven't had so much from the intermediate or new players for whom the guide was written... Which is a shame. Cheers anyway, nice seeing you here.

grin grin

blast chain is easier to use in 1.3 since people are easier to hit.

Maybe I'm just a traditionalist, but I'll go with SP over blast. The goal is to take down the enemy base, and if I want to dish out some sneak damage on the enemy recy or fact early on, SP can get some good damage in. You can keep las with that since an instant fire weapon is always nice, and the anti-armor of the SP far surpasses chaingun for pools. In player vs player, I see that blast would be a good choice. I'm just more of a base-buster sidestep the players type guy.

That's the beauty of BZ. So many way to get a single goal done.

Trouble is, against a decent opponent, you'll never get into their base for long enough to do any real damage - their blast cannons will destroy you, then they'll go and destroy your pools while you try to save for another floating piece of junk. This will be repeated until you can no longer afford anymore floating junkpiles, and at that point, you'll lose. Sad

Never! I WILL remain a mystery!

Nah i just doubt you know of my clan and my reputation so its just not nessesary to mention it - as i said, those who have to know - do know.

@ bb1: To get that single goal done you have to play a blast tank if your team needs you to do it - just as you have to hit pools all game long if your team needs you to do it.

You should come to 1.2 and play with us - its fast paced and it sucks you up to you like a cheap whore in an economic crisis!

1.2 runs like hoot on my PC. It's the reason I gave up FE midway through. The rendering is awful, and since I am a native BZ1 player the physics don't suit my taste. I did play it before and I can even hover in it, but the choppiness is too off-putting.

Most of us don't give a flying flip who you are or who you belong with as long as you are of morally sound mind and courteous beneficence.
