I've applied the 1.4 patch and am still getting the 0xc0000005 error. I downloaded the winets2.dll file as well, although it is just sitting on my desktop. Does it need to be moved somewhere?

Try using http://www.bzuniverse.com/forum/index.php/topic,10759.0.html that! It is still in the early stages of testing. Multiplayer will generally be empty, too, as only testers using it can see other testers, of which there are few. Single player should work fine, and if anything goes wrong, be sure to tell Ken so he can get you squared away!

You might be dealing with a "Data Execution Prevention" issue on XP. Every BZ .exe file produces that(?, a?) error for me, until I turn it off for that file.

The BZ98 installer only shows one server, there are actually 5 servers.
Eddy
It's funny how we've gotten to the point of passing by the nonsense as 'normal activity'.

And if Eddy told you that Jonblund told you to use bz98, be sure to know it's illegal.

Well, it does work. And if Eddy told you that Jonblund told you to use bz98, be sure to know it's illegal.
He owns the disk already, so he's safe.

Well, it does work.
Yes indeed it does. . . for one server. Just another example of the antics.

Aah, but we have the new server.dat You make it sound so simple AHadley. Could it be that it just is simple?

You're right. That makes it perfectly legal. Let me host some other pirated software in hopes you will own the disc and download it. *Silence

I mean if somebody tried to prosecute for it, he has a viable defence that is highly likely to stand up in a court of law. Let's face it, if you were on a jury, would you vote somebody guilty if they downloaded a game illegally because the disk version won't install on their OS?

I doubt very much anyone's questionable deviation from Activision's and/or Atari's EULA would ever be seen by a jury. At this point in time, I really REALLY doubt anyone in authority gives a steaming pile. If it was a new game like Mass Effect 2, I imagine you could still get slightly spanked once you proved you owned the game either by disk or an online d/l agreement like STEAM.
